Selective Color (Revised)

Artemis

This piece is a portrait of the goddess Artemis.  She is poised, ready for the hunt.  I was trying to focus on the warm/cool color relationships in this piece.

Art and Text Project (Revised)

Saevae Memorem Junonis Ob Iram

This painting is inspired by the opening of the Aeneid.  Juno is enraged at Aeneas' escape from Troy, and, as a result, she stirs up the winds into a terrible storm against him.  This painting is supposed to be reflective of Juno's anger.  The words, saevae memorem iunonis ob iram, are translated, on account of the mindful anger of savage Juno.  This is a quote taken directly from the first book of the Aeneid.

Artist Inspired Self Portrait (Closeups added)

Self Portrait

This is a self portrait inspired by the work of Gregory Gillespie.  I wanted to focus on grounding the figure in the background with this piece.  Gillespie usually depicts himself working on his paintings and he pays great attention to the details of his background.  I wanted to bring those aspects into this piece.

Plant and Pattern (Revised)

Decay

This piece is foccusing on the beauty in Decay.  I found this leaf that was just begining to change colors and the project stemmed from there.

Artist Inspired Painting (Revised)

Jamie

This is my first piece for advanced art.  We were supposed to be inspired by an artist from a magazine we were given.  I responded to the artist Sean Cheetham.  I reacted to the strong shadows he had in his portraits and the urban, rough backgrounds.

This is my first piece for advanced art.  We were supposed to be inspired by an artist from a magazine we were given.  I responded to the artist Sean Cheetham.  I reacted to the strong shadows he had in his portraits and the urban, rough backgrounds.  Here are a few of his paintings that I like.

Black Lamb

This piece is my main inspiration.  I tried to have a similar background and strong shadow.
Check out his blog. There are lots of really cool paintings. http://seancheetham.blogspot.com/

Marble Making Workshop

These are all the marbles I made (except the two that broke). I'll talk about them below.

The three below here are polka-dotted marbles.

The next two are wig wag marbles.

The next one is a ribbon core marble.

Finally, the last marble is an implosion marble.

Pottery Class

This picture is of the pie plate I made.
This is another picture of the same pie plate.
This is a mug that I made.
This is a casserole dish without a lid
This is another view of the casserole dish.
This is a tea pot that I made. I am happy with the shape, but the glaze did not turn out the way I expected.
This is another teapot. I am also not very happy with the glaze, but I like the shape.

Ceramics Class

These are some pieces that I threw on the wheel.  The first one is a coffee mug, and the second two are garlic roasters.

Painted Collage Workshop

I just participated in a two day workshop taught by Amie Olvier. We worked on making collages with mixed media and acrylic paint.

This is a small work on paper. It was my inspiration for my two larger works.

This work was created by layering newspaper to create the hills.

This work was created in the same way, but the newspaper is less visable here.

Encaustic Workshop

I just participated in an encaustic workshop. I have never used this medium before, but I thought I would try something new.

For my first piece, we coated the board with four layers of encausti and experimented with melting through the different layers and creating patterns.

For the next piece, i was experimenting with the same techniques.

Next we experimented with creating lines and sharp edges with tape and string.

For this piece, I experimented with an image transfer and using pages from a book.

This piece uses techinques for building up encaustic in 3D.

This is my first large piece (9"x12"). I created a stencil out of tape for the man holding the umbrella.

This is my second large piece. I was experimenting with dripping the wax and cutting into the piece.
